[-- THANK YOU --]
Thanks for taking the time to read these instructions. Mutants is a self-
explanatory game but this will serve as a quick reference so you can watch
out for some things. Plus, this documentation gives away a few more details
that might not be found right away during game play. If you have suggestions
or comments on the game contact me at the BBS number listed above or have
your Sysop pass them on to me.
[-- BASIC GAME PLAY --]
Mutants is an adventure/RPG game where you battle against computer generated
enemies and other players. Many features of the game are dependant on your
charisma, experience, level and intelligence. The more you gain of these
attributes will help you advance much sooner. Special events will occur at
various times once you "trip" the flag to enable it. Sooner or later you will
figure out how to deliberately avoid some events and turn others on that you
want to happen. Figuring out the tricks of the game is what makes playing
fun in the first place! There are a LOT of hidden options, surprise events,
and funny ad-lib comments in this game.
One feature of this game that stands out is that you can choose 1 of 8
special mutant powers. Each power plays differently and has it's own
advantages and disadvantages. You may have to try several different powers
to see which one you like best...IF you can figure out how to change your
powers!
The game does not reset. Players who make it to level 15 are rewarded and
then start at level 1 again and keep some of the things they have gained
along the way. Other players continue as normal.
[-- YOUR MISSION --]
Your overall mission is to reach level 15 where the Mutant Warrior's base of
operations is located. You will achieve this goal mostly by EXPLORING THE
CITY and encountering mutants to fight. There are many places to go that
will help you earn extra skills, experience, charisma, intelligence, etc. that
you will need. You will also need to keep yourself fed, healthy and free
from diseases. In addition to this overall mission, each level will have a
mission that tells you what you need to gain in order to advance. THIS IS
VERY IMPORTANT! Pay attention to the missions. Many games allow you to
progress after you reach a certain amount of experience. Some levels in this
game require charisma or intelligence to be a certain amount before you move
ahead. If you don't pay attention to what you need to obtain you may work on
the wrong attribute and never advance.
[-- THE MAIN MENU --] (NEW FUTURA CITY)
This is the main menu in the entire game. By default it is called NEW FUTURA
CITY unless your Sysop has changed it. Everything starts or ends from this
point in the game. The options listed on it are outlined below. The easiest
way to gain experience and credits is to EXPLORE THE CITY and fight against
other mutants.
[-- EXPLORE THE CITY --]
Exploring the city streets and buildings can be both adventurous and very
dangerous. You may search for items on the street that may increase your
health, strength or charisma. There are also items that may affect these
stats in a negative way as well. You may even find special items that can
be used to open secret passages at a later time. Fighting enemies on the
street can be one of the most dangerous things you can do in Mutants. It's
best to visit other places in the game and fight last in the event you are
beaten and cannot play again until the next day. However, this strategy is
entirely up to you.
On this same menu you can CALL ON AZURA for help (if you are aligned as a
player fighting for justice), EAT AT THE SLOP HOUSE to fill your belly or
USE A MEDICAL KIT to heal any wounds you may have obtained while fighting.
[-- CAFE 90'S --]
Cafe 90's is large and wild cafe located in the central part of town. You
can TALK TO DRACHON, one of the wisest mutants, to gain knowledge about the
city, the past and current events. It's wise to make note of his advice.
You'll have to find out what happens when you tangle with him in the wrong
way. You can also BUY DRINKS for yourself or other locals in the Cafe. A
number of things can happen when you mix mutants and alcohol.
Visiting our inhouse Psychic, Saphira, can give you valuable information
about things that are going to happen in the future. HEED THIS NOTE: She
is rarely wrong in her predictions! For a price, Saphira can even give you
some information on your enemies.
There are also means to MINGLE WITH OTHERS and USE THE FACILITIES should the
need arise.
[-- WARRIORS ARENA --]
The Warriors Arena is a holographic chamber designed for putting your skills
and powers to the ultimate test. This arena can help to develop your
strength and help you gain extra skills! Extra skills will aid you in your
fights on the street and are used in addition to your regular powers. You
should visit this arena daily to make sure you are in top performance.
Strength will increase a little each day and will definitely help you in your fighting as you continue the
game. Some aspects of this arena will not be as easy to challenge. You may
need to locate other places in the game in order to answer the intelligence
challenges.
HINT: Using the challenges in the Warrior's Arena daily will increase your
strength and health. These will benefit you in your street fights.
[-- HEADQUARTERS --]
Should you decide to start a team or join an existing one you and your team
members can seek safety from the troubled world inside your Headquarters.
Team members can exchange items and credits among themselves and can hold
private discussions in their meeting room. The number of teams are limited
and only the mutants with true intelligence can lead others. Joint bank
accounts of team members also gain interest on a daily basis which can help
to fund your team and get you way ahead of others.
[-- EVENTS --]
There are two main types of events that can occur in the game. Each type of
event may have many scenarios that can branch from them. You won't have to
look hard for them as they are a regular part of the game and will take place
from time to time. That's all I will say on this topic.
[-- ZORAK'S HOTEL --]
Zorak will offer you a place to stay overnight to be safe and sound from
your enemies that lurk on the streets. For those that don't belong on a
team where they can sleep overnight for free, this establishment is just the
place.
[-- VICTORIA'S VIXEN HAVEN --]
Victoria's Vixen Haven is a wild and exotic dance club. You can spend time
with the Vixens that work there or try to charm your way into Victoria's
heart. For you female players out there, you will also find there is just as
much opportunity for you as the men...including trying to sway Victoria's man
away from her! You can even converse with other players in the game through
this club.
[-- SHOPPING MALL --]
The shopping mall is a collection of businesses that offer services you will
find very useful. Changing your name, buying supplies and medical services
are some of the features you will find here. Make sure you have credits in
your account and be double sure you don't spend it all in a shopping spree!
Make sure to stock up on Med-Kits at Autum's Article Shop! They are the
cheapest way to heal yourself.
[-- MUTATION COMMUNICATIONS --]
You are initially given a Com-Link when you enter the game. If you lose it
you will have to buy another one at Autumn's Article Store. You cannot read
or send messages to other players if you do not own a Com-Link. While using
your Com-Link you can send global messages to the satellite so that all
Mutants may view your statement. You can even check on the last 3 days
history of what has happened in the city.
[-- TAMARA THE EVIL SORCERESS --]
Tamara lives on the outskirts of town near the Mutant Warrior's home base. We
can't say much about her as she keeps to herself most of the time and rarely
goes into town. One note we do have concerning her is this: Tamara dabbles
in the dark forces of magic and her powers are great.
[-- CONCLUSION --]
There is much to find in Mutants and big surprises await those who complete
level 15 and defeat the Grand Mutant Warrior. But you will have to fight
your way there to see for yourself. Oh, in case you are wondering, the game
does change a bit each time you complete 15 levels...
Have fun!
